At the age of 12, Maria Pia Tomassini was too short to reach her family’s small hand-operated sewing machine, needing to stand on a fruit crate to learn her craft. As her craft blossomed into a skill unmatched by her peers, Tomassini’s husband, Piero, believed in her abilities so strongly that together they opened a small business in 1974. The tradition was passed down to their daughter, Mara, who now not only runs the business, but has grown the company into one of the most respected names manufacturing Italian knitwear.
